1. How did you get into the music industry, what is your background?
My father‘s hobby was singing and as a child I would sit by him and learn as much as I could. I appeared in talent shows in my hometown so I was always on stage even as a child. I sent a demo to the Sound Pipe Records and soon after I received a phone call from Bee2, next minute I knew I was in the studio working on my debut album.
2. Who is your inspiration?
My grandfather is my inspiration in life but musically I have a lot of artists that I look up to such as Christina Aguilera, Beyonce, India Arie, Prince, Michael Jackson of course.
3. Do you think the music industry is male dominated? If so, what are the constraints of a female vocalist?
Definitely yes! I think people find it harder to accept a female vocalist. The challenges that females face is more complicated than what male vocalists go through. I want to change that. I think people should show love and support to any artist and people‘s opinions should be solely based on their music. Not on the fact that they are male or female. It‘s about time our people support us and give credit where it‘s due. After all it‘s a ‘music’ industry.
4. Please tell us about your latest project, how long did it take you to complete, are there any videos etc?
I am currently working on my debut album, still trying to find the right sound and vibe. We‘re experimenting and taking it to a new level. My first single Laila is a good example of that, its got something for everyone to enjoy and the video will be out very soon.
5. What is your favourite song?
I don‘t really have one favourite song but I do like singing the blues like At Last by Etta James. I like inspirational songs they really connect to me. Songs have to have a meaning to me. Otherwise I like Video by India Arie, or anything by Christina Aguilera.
6. What do you like to do in your spare time?
I‘m very close to my family so in my spare time I like to spend it with them. I like going to the cinema, shopping, gym, chilling with friends. Just the usual things really.
7. Describe yourself in three words.
I‘m really bad at doing this but if I had to describe myself in three words I would say I am innovative, motivated and cheerful.
8. Name three things you can‘t live without. The first would definitely be my family, mobile phone and music.
9. Which newcomer do you think has the most potential to hit it big?
I think I would say Alyssia. She has a different sound and potential to do really well.
