Make Up Tips

The eyes are the most beautiful Asian feature and your make up should reflect that. Black mascara and black eyeliner are the best things since sliced bread for eye make up. The effects you get when applying eye make up properly, can be outstanding.

How to apply mascara

Apply mascara at the lash base. Then wiggle the lash comb to the tips of your lashes. Make sure you get rid of clumps by removing excess mascara from the wand before you apply.

The two popular forms of eyeliner are liquid and pencil. Using pencil eye liner is easier than the liquid form but with practice, you can master the art of applying liquid eyeliner. It is natural to close your eye as you draw the line, but results have shown that if you keep it open, it actually makes it easier to follow the natural curve of your lid, thus having a straighter line.

Another tip is to use small strokes when applying, instead of one continuous line, for example start at the inner corner, then the middle and outer corner, then go back and connect them.

Foundation

Asian skin has many skin tones and that is the biggest factor when choosing make up, ensure you have the exact same colour make as your skin tone, lighter shades will create a ‘washed out’, dull look, whilst intense shade will add dramatic effect and bring to life the eyes and cheekbones.

Always choose a foundation and powder with a slightly yellow undertone. Many Asian women make the mistake of wearing pink makeup shades to neutralize their natural skin tone, but in fact, it creates a very unnatural, outdated look. Yellow based products make Asian women produce a natural, flawless look that is modern and yet beautiful.

Eyeshadow

Colours that are flattering for daytime wear are brown, bronze and light colours applied close to the lashes while more intense colours are blended on top.

Evening eye make up can be jazzed up with dramatic metallic colours, or subtle colours like black and navy.
