Fashion Review

Autumn passed with the Boho chic look started by Sienna Miller, of floaty skirts, furry gilets, embroidered tunics, cropped jackets, large faux coin belts, Ugg boots and cowboy boots. However, the key trends of Winter 2007/8 is the smart, tailored look. High waisted trousers, waistcoats and trilby hats are dominant on the catwalk and in high street stores.

When it comes to getting suited and booted whether it is for work or play, there is nothing like a chic trouser suit to set the mood. Wide legged and high waist trousers based loosely on a 40’s look with slouchy attitude team up with tweeds and wools gives a contrast in texture.

Also, try pairing some boyish trousers with a masculine cut jacket, add a ruffled blouse with a few pieces of glittering gold or silver jewellery, and you have got the look! If you prefer skirts, go for the retro chic look with a slim pencil skirt, round-toe ankle boots and bustier with a tailored jacket.

For those who want the smart look without wearing a suit, try layering a long, chunky, colourful jumper, belted at the waist over a pair of black leggings. Finish the look with ankle boots complete with bold jewellery. Skinny jeans are back in style so if your not feeling adventurous, swap leggings for skinny jeans.

Partywear

Silks and satins have adorned the catwalks this season, and sequins and embellished evening dresses are popular for evening gatherings. Maxi dresses are back but are chic and glamorous in typical winter colours and fabrics. Retro details are also dominant in party outfits, classic sheath dresses never go out of style, especially in jewel tones like rich ruby, emerald green or sapphire.

Outerwear

The essential winter jacket not only keeps you warm, but compliments your winter wardrobe. To keep it safe, stick to a black, double breasted jackets. Black is the only colour that matches everything and it will never go out of fashion.

For the adventurous, fur is back! But this time it's faux fur, to keep it simple, try a jacket with a bit of faux fur around the cuffs or the hood. For the more classic consumer, a wool trench coat are classics and will last for many seasons.

Finishing touches for any look this season, think black, shiny and chunky. Shoes

High heeled ankle boots are hot in the fashion scene and are available in a wide variety of styles and colours to compliment any outfit. Most high street shops have a wide collection, for example New Look and River Island.

Ballerina flats and pumps are popular with the skinny jean look. Shop around at Dorothy Perkins for a reasonable pair.

The tall boot trend is still going strong, versatile to wear under jeans or with a skirt. Popular colours for winter footwear include wearable neutrals like black, dark brown and grey.
