During the festive period it is easy to over indulge but hard to lose the extra pounds! As the famous saying goes: ‘A moment on the lips, a lifetime on the hips’ so AsianFx have come up with a few simple tips to help you stick to your new years resolutions and get you back into shape:
1. Drink plenty of water: Sometimes people confuse thirst with hunger, which means you are adding unneccessary calories to your diet, on average you should drink at least 8 glasses of water a day.
2. Think about what you can add to your diet, not take away: Aim to have at least 5 portions of fruit or vegetables a day, instead of having them alone, add them to meals as a side dish.
3. Decide if you really are hungry: When eating, always look for physical signs of hunger, your stomach is the size of your fist, so small regular meals will supply the energy your body needs.
4. Cut down on snacks: Snacking is a form of ‘mindless eating’, when your infront of the tv or watching a film. If you feel hungry in between meals, have an apple, not only will it count towards a ‘5 a day’ fruit portion, but it will also curb your hunger.
5. Enjoy your favourite foods: Being on a diet does not mean you cannot enjoy your favourite foods, everything is good for you, in moderation! So next time you feel like a doughnut, buy one, not a box.
6. Increase your protein intake: Protein helps preserve muscle mass and promotes fat burning whilst keeping you feeling full. You can get your protein fix from yogurt, cheese, nuts, or beans.
7. Spice up your life: Spices or Chillies can give you a flavour boost that stimulates your taste buds and satisfies your hunger, which means you won’t eat as much.
8. Fill your kitchen cupboards with healthy alternatives: Take away the temptations and you are more likely to stick to your diet, so have healthy foods and snacks in your kitchen.
9. Order children’s portions at restaurants: You don’t have to feel left out when dining with friends or family, by having a smaller portion you can enjoy your food and save calories.
10. Take a walk: 20 minutes of exercise a day is enough to keep you in shape, get off the bus a few stops earlier and walk the rest or walk down to the local cornershop instead of driving.
